Wolverine Terminals’ Prince Rupert Marine Fuels Project would provide safe, reliable, environmentally friendly, competitively priced marine fuel for the region.
Filling a service gap for Prince Rupert BC
- Marine fuel is currently supplied from refineries in Vancouver and Puget Sound
- Fuel could be towed by tug and barge (approximately 1000 km) through the Inside Passage from Vancouver to Prince Rupert
- High transport costs make fuelling at the Port less economic than alternatives
- Trans-Pacific ships currently leave Asian ports with enough fuel to make the round trip, potentially reducing cargo capacity
- All fuels for the project will be transported by rail
- Port’s direct and extensive rail network access means access to more economic fuels… a distinct and compelling competitive advantage for the port and the region
Becoming a full-service Port boosts regional economy
- Closest North American port to Asia
- Deepest natural harbour in North America
- Direct access to a rail network with connections to markets across North America and significant room to increase traffic volumes
- Approximately 17 full-time local employees to be hired, with many more indirect jobs supported by increased investment and traffic at the Port of Prince Rupert
- Wolverine is committed to maximizing opportunities for local workers, contractors and suppliers
